The Florentine Curia claims its rights there, including over the church; the monks of Santa Maria Nascente di Crespino are identified as the principal owners of the area. Recognized as legitimate holders of the “mass”, they levy tolls on men and animals passing through and, with imperial authorization, erect a bridge and a “hospital”.
