Chiesa di Santo Stefano a Montefioralle

The Church of Santo Stefano is located at the highest point of the village of Montefioralle, near Greve in Chianti. To reach it you need to walk a staircase that starts from the main square of the village and arrives precisely in front of the facade of the church.
Structure and Works
Born with a Gothic structure, this building was remodelled between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The church has side facades in stone with a row while the facade is plastered. Internally it consists of a nave with three wooden trusses. Inside the church houses several valuable works. At the first altar on the right we find a painting representing Saints Michael the archangel, Jacopo, Stefano and Domenico, made by Orazio Fidani and dated 1647; at the high altar we find the table of the fifteenth century depicting the Trinity and Saints attributed to the Master of the Epiphany of Fiesole; on the left the panel depicting the Annunciation and Saints of the Master of Sant'Ivo and datable between 1395 and 1400; the first altar left we find the most valuable work that would be the cusped table of the Madonna and Child of the so-called Master of Montefioralle, of the Florentine school, and dated to the end of the thirteenth century. Finally we can see a seventeenth-century wooden Crucifix and the nineteenth-century copy of the Madonna of Porta Pinti by Andrea del Sarto.
