Who we are
Xplorer is the app for discovering places, experiences and events in Chianti, Mugello and Impruneta. It is run by Xplorer Platform, based in Florence, Italy. For any question about this policy or your data, write to us at info@xplorer-platform.com.
What data we collect
Account. When you sign up with email and password you give us a username, your email address and a password. If you sign in with Google, Google sends us your first name, last name, email and an account identifier. In your profile you can add a display name and your Instagram username.
Location. The app asks for your location only when you tap a button that uses it, and only if you allow it in your browser or phone. It is used to show distances, nearby places and the area you are in, so it stays on your device — except when you look for what is nearby on the map, when you upload a photo and when you submit a mission. In those cases your location is sent to our servers with the request.
Photos and content you upload. If you join the content programme, you send us the photo, the name of the place, its location and the date it was taken. The photo file may contain other information recorded by your phone, such as when and where it was taken.
Bookings. When you book an event you give us your first and last name and, if you wish, your phone number, the number of people and a note for the organiser.
Missions. When you complete a mission you send us your answers, the requested photos and your location, which is used to check that you are really there.
Favourites and activity. We save the places you add to your favourites. We also record how you use the app: the pages and listings you open, the places you favourite or share, map use, sign-ins and sign-ups. If you are signed in, this is linked to your account (identifier and email); in any case it records the type of device (computer, phone or installed app) and the area you are browsing.
Performance. On a share of visits we measure how fast pages load, together with the page address and the type of device. This is not linked to your account.
Why we use it
We use account data, favourites, bookings, content and missions to let you use the app and the services you ask for: this is the basis of our relationship with you. We use activity and performance data to understand how the app is used and to improve it, on the basis of our legitimate interest and without advertising profiling. We use your location only with your permission, which you can withdraw at any time in your browser or phone settings.
What others can see
Your public profile shows your display name, your Instagram username if you added it, your reputation, your experience and the content you have published. Approved photos appear in the app with your name. The answers, photos and location you send for a mission are visible to Guardians, the users who review missions. Your email, phone number, favourites and bookings are never public.
Who we share data with
With the event organiser, for bookings: they receive what you enter in the booking so they can handle it. With Google, if you choose to sign in with Google. With the providers that supply our servers, image storage and technical services, who process data only on our behalf. Maps come from OpenStreetMap: to show them, your browser downloads the map images from their servers, which receive your IP address. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep account data, favourites, content and mission data while your account is active, and delete them when you ask us to close it. Booking data is needed until the event ends and to handle any later requests. We keep activity data for as long as needed to produce statistics.
Your rights
At any time you can ask us to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict its use, to receive it in a machine-readable format, or to object to its use for statistics. Write to us at info@xplorer-platform.com from the address linked to your account; to close your account, just ask. If you think your data is handled unlawfully, you can also contact the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it).
Security
Data travels between the app and our servers over encrypted connections. Account access is handled by our authentication system. Please choose a password you do not use elsewhere and do not share it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle data we will update this page and the date at the top. If the changes are significant we will tell you in the app.
